How do I onboard a patient onto Dental Monitoring?

Set the patient up at the fit appointment: create them in DM, enter the total number of aligners in the plan, set the current aligner to 1, start monitoring on the OneSmile aligner protocol, and have them complete their first scan in the practice with you watching.

At the fit appointment

  1. Create or open the patient in the Dental Monitoring dashboard or the Doctor app.
  2. Enter the total number of aligners in the treatment plan, not the number in the box.
  3. Set the current aligner number to 1.
  4. Start monitoring on the OneSmile aligner protocol.
  5. Issue the ScanBox Pro and have the patient complete their first scan in the practice, with you watching.

Why the first scan should happen in the practice

The single biggest predictor of DM compliance is whether the first scan went well. Doing it chairside lets you correct phone placement, retractor technique and lighting before the patient is at home on their own.

Setting the ground rules

Explain at this appointment that scanning on time is a condition of the treatment model, and that it is what allows them to avoid six to eight weekly clinic visits. Patients who understand the trade comply. Patients who were not told tend not to.

Note: Adding the standard OneSmile protocols to your protocol library and creating a quickstart makes every subsequent patient faster to set up.
