Managing patients who want to self-advance their aligners

Set the expectation at the first aligner issue: the patient scans, and DM tells them when to move. Adaptive mode helps, because it gives them a data-driven prompt instead of asking them to rely on how the aligner feels.

Setting the expectation

  1. At the initial aligner issue, be explicit. The patient scans regularly and waits for DM to confirm the move. Advancing early risks poor tracking.
  2. Consider Adaptive mode, which gives the patient a personalised prompt based on actual micron level passivity.

If they have already self-advanced

Assess tracking using the DM data. Where there is significant deviation, a SmartSTL or a refinement may be needed. Tell us how many sets they moved through and what the tracking shows.

What to have ready

Start a support request in the OneSmile Concierge chat and include:

  • Practice name
  • Patient name
  • Case number
  • How many sets the patient has self-advanced
  • What the DM tracking status shows
