What to do when an aligner is not tracking

Work through four checks: tight contacts, chewie use, attachment seating and aligner sequence. Most non-tracking resolves at one of these. If it does not, send us the DM data.

The four checks

  1. Check contacts with floss. Run through all anterior contacts, and if the floss is tight or will not pass, perform 0.1mm IPR to free them.
  2. Check chewie use. The patient should be using chewies for five to 10 minutes per session, particularly before a DM scan.
  3. Check attachments. Are they all seating fully in the aligner windows? If not, review your material and technique.
  4. Check the aligner sequence. Confirm the patient has not skipped a set. This is the most common cause of sudden non-tracking.

If it persists

Send us DM scan screenshots and a description of what you are seeing. Where there is significant deviation from the plan, the case goes to the planning team for clinical review.
